Water (Poems)

Ten thousand lotus flowers
sail down moonlight creek
on catfish backs.

The river unfurls, and
unfurls as the river
dragon uncoils, and uncoils.

A barge rolls down river.
At irregular intervals
the roof folds down
and the skeleton band
plays to whomever.

A little wet
but the worm is happy
for the empty river.

For anyone who wanders by
its humble abode of
sticks and rocks
moonlight or not
the catfish reassures them
that everything’s okay.

River dragon
just a bobbing turtle
won’t deny it though.

Fathomless depths
but the catfish
doesn’t know that.

River dragon
just a bobbing turtle
pays no heed.

Koi lost in moonlight streams.

A stray football
in a pond
has lost track of downs.

Fragrant petal rafts
carry pied wagtails
through vast and
vague rivers.

Trout in America
cautious inhabitants
of creeks and brooks.

 Millions of tiny dragons
perfectly formed
taper past the street lamp
in twilight
illuminated liquid bodies
wrapping the light.

The paper rafter
sees the paper lanterns.
Knows home is near.

Trout in America
read Trout Fishing in America
as the pages
float down stream.

Randoms I had scribbled down. And I love me some Richard Brautigan.

    Captivating poem….love how it flowed.

  4. They may well be random but they group together nicely. A bit like fish darting around each other in the river. Enjoyed!

  5. Ravenblack says:

Wonderful verses. Magical and rather oriental with the mention of dragons and lanterns but there’s so many other little delights here too, even a stray football to add a touch of familiarity. Really enjoyed this.

  6. Thomas Davis says:

As usual, this is just wonderful, fanciful, dancing imagistic poetry. I’m always glad when I come by here.

  7. pretty impressive work: a real tour de force; I love the crisp scattered images almost skatting across the page ; I’ll be visiting your blog more often — it’s challenging reading, like you’re pushing the envelope. I like that

    • Thank you for the comment.

I do this sometimes. Ten plus poems seem to acquire a theme and I just let them out sometimes.

And I appreciate the comment. It’s good to try new things (although I had no idea I was pushing envelopes).
